2017 with feeling

Too much going on in this country to even address here. Feelings are the least of it. But I am happy to say my first musical moves of 2017 will be in the direction that matters most right now: supporting communities and autonomous creativity in tech.

Saturday January 14 (9pm) I'm at the lovely, lively Starr Bar, alongside the amazing Dj Riobamba - we're holding down the decks at an after party for the Anti-Trump Free School / Escuelita Libre Anti-Trump (which is a great event in itself - A Free University-NYC and Mayday Space collaboration that day 12 PM – 7 PM @ Mayday Space (176 St. Nicholas Ave, Brooklyn) Music starts at 9,  goes til whenever!

Sunday January 15 I'm playing the cool-down, 7-9pm, after WIKIPEDIA DAY at the Ace Hotel, in conjunction with the NY branch of the Wikimedia Foundation. Come for the day and add some pages to wikipedia at at edit-a-thon (they always need more women artists, musicians and scientists), or participate in some some interesting conversations, and eat CAKE.

Monday January 23rd I'll be up at Bembe for ESO!! Mondays with musical fam Dj Reaganomics and Dj Dirtyfinger. Come shake it up and drink tropical juices all night!

Fall in the forest

some kind of madness in the forest this month, and then we're flowing through the Ready Room!

While I'm in NEW ORLEANS for the Law & Society Association's Annual Meeting (where I will present on community-based challenges to dominant white supremacist definitions of privacy), I also am thrilled to be playing two amazing shows.

Mexico City Recap!

A massive cheer to Ali Gua Gua for hosting me and linking me to some wonderful people in Mexico City. I can't even begin to describe all the great things about this place, but certainly the gigs, especially at Pulqería Insurgentes (Courtesy of Ali and the fabulous Terrorista Del Sabor), and at Foro Normandie (big thanks to the Frikstailers and everyone involved, and Pa Kongal for the amazing set), were a high point for me.

What's that sound?
photo credit Hanna Quevedo) from a review here (my translation):
"Dj Ripley gave a great disquisition of hidden gems you've probably never heard! Fascinating how someone can use so many styles and so many artists to create a work of sound art one can both hear and feel."

I also got to meet some of the people involved with LUCHADORAS which is an online TV series focusing on women all over Mexico (and beyond) who are fighting to improve the situation of women. We had a nice talk and a bit of an interview (hope to find a link for that soon), and I am looking forward to building more with them and supporting them in the work they do!

I will be back soon! Can't wait to throw down some heavy bass with Sonido Berzerk, maybe get experimental alongside Tarana on their next tour, and tear up more clubs and other spaces within and beyond Mexico City!
