ELEVATE festival this weekend

I'm pleased to be speaking and Djing at the ELEVATE festival this weekend in Graz, Austria.

My connections with the festival go back many years, at this point. I first met the co-founder, Eiterherd, back in 2001, when he was on tour in the US and hosted by Broklyn Beats, the breakcore/noise/electronic label that would (alongside the Renegade Virus/23 Windows crew) provide a musical home for me (and a literal one- I moved into their loft shortly after and became a resident DJ for their night at Subtonic) when I first came to NY city.

The festival is small, but beautifully put together, with a free daytime program of political discussion, very focused on green and leftist ideas, putting them into dynamic interaction with arts and musical events. and then night time is for music, often also pulling together the thoughts of the day and re-expressing them physically and socially. Every year is a different theme, and this one, Creative Response, spoke to me a great deal.

So I'm glad to be part of a discussion on Creative Response/Ability on Friday evening (7pm) alongside

  • The Yes Men (US)
  • Antonino D'Ambrosio (US)
  • Elisabeth Mayerhofer (AT)
  • John Jordan (UK) - via Videostream
  • Kalyanee Mam (KH) - via Videostream
  • HERBERT (UK) - via Videostream

And later that night (I go on at 10pm), I'm djing with this incredible lineup inside a castle in a mountain (the Dom im Berg venue is wild!)

  • DJ Funk live (Dance Mania/US)
  • Bok Bok (Night Slugs/UK)
  • RP Boo (Planet Mu, Honest Jon's Records/US)
  • Venus X (GHE20G0TH1K‬/US)
  • MikeQ (Fade To Mind/US)
  • DJ Ripley (Dutty Artz/US)
Keep an eye on this festival, and come through if you are in the area!
