Continuing the theme

Pleased to dj, for at least the third time, the Jews for Racial and Economic Justice (JFREJNYC) Annual PurimShpil! This great organization pulls together a tremendous spectacle, featuring song, dance, puppets, costumes, and the retelling of Queen Esther's heroism and cleverness with a spin that links it to current issues of the day, from police brutality to water rights to gentrification. The play is followed by bands, hip-hop and finally a set from DJ Ripley until 3am! Here's a write-up of the past few (although they neglect to mention I dj'd many of them): http://jewcy.com/jewish-arts-and-culture/radical-queer-purim-spiel-must-attend

And the next day, another Party With A Purpose, courtesy of a new brooklyn based family-centered progressive group called B-FREE, plus music and dancing from City Stomp, ballet foklorico, and DJ Ripley all support Mixteca, a local immigrants rights organization.

We raised 6,000 for Mixteca!

More music and action to come in 2017.
